What is the difference between playing to win vs. playing not to lose?
As I sat around yesterday watching NFL games and thinking about the things I want to accomplish during the next year, I began to consider playing to win and playing not to lose. On the one hand, both can result in victory but if you are playing not to lose, the chances are you are playing it safe. Not taking any risks.
While there in nothing wrong with the strategy in a game, if you play not to lose at life, playing it safe leads to a dull and ordinary day to day. It is how I have been living the past few years and I’m tired of it.
Playing to win on the other hand, holds the opportunity for big wins but also for big loses. And there in is the problem. Play not to lose, you are safe and comfortable. Play to win and you may find yourself in the uncomfortable position of losing and losing big. So I guess the questions is, would you rather be safe, comfortable without challenge or would you rather risk a huge lose for the potential for huge rewards?
