Over the past few weeks in conversations and observations, I have really begun to notice a widening divide among to people. On one side, there is the group who is looking to the future and gobbling up all the new technological advances. They are the ones hungry to learn anything new clamoring for anything that will give them an advantage. They are the ones chomping at the bit for Google Glass and other tech bits. On the other side, I see and increasing number of people who are either too apathetic or not intelligent enough to do anything to improve their lot in life. Just like the widening financial divide between the rich and the poor, I see a growing intellectual divide and this has me worried. It also got me thinking about the Morlocks and the Eloi, the two groups that our society has evolved into and the principle players in H.G. Wells' novel "The Time Machine". The Morlocks are intelligent, aggressive and they feed on the Eloi, literally. The Eloi, on the other hand, are passive, lazy and have no curiosity. Is this our future? Is the widening financial and intellectual gap, the lack of a middle class, evolving our society into Morlocks and Eloi? Was H.G. Wells right about our tragic future? What do you think?
