Like most of the civilized world, I woke yesterday to a bright new morning with Google Maps back on my iPhone. It was sleek, beautiful and best of all it talked to me. Google Maps for iOS pre-Apple Maps has been well documented for what it lacked compared to its Android cousin, most notably lacking, turn by turn navigation. And I’ll admit, for my GPS needs while driving, I abandoned Google for Waze. I just couldn’t drive and look at my phone at the same time. Apple long wanted Google to upgrade its mapping program so it was more on par with the Android version but Google wouldn’t, probably to keep some advantage for its own Android OS. So, Apple being Apple, they just went out to build something better. The problem was, my 6 year old niece probably could hand drawn something better than Apple Maps. Now this new version of Google Maps is, in a word, glorious. But this got me to thinking. Maybe it was all part of the plan. Would Apple be so underhanded as to force Google to upgrade by booting them? Let’s examine a little:
