I need to take a minute to vent about this because I just read on NJ.com that Marlboro NJ schools will be placing armed police in all of their schools beginning in January. A Hoboken councilman has proposed the same for his town. I will openly admit that I cried and observed a moment of silence Friday over the events at the Sandy Hook School in Connecticut. This was a tragedy that should never had happened for so many reasons and because of it, hopefully our country will take a closer look at mental health, guns and the values that we teach our children. Maybe it's a temporary solution to make the kids feel safe but placing armed police in schools will do nothing to address the underlying issues as to why Sandy Hook happened. In my opinion, it may undermine the children's education. Younger children will begin to wonder all day, are they safe instead of focusing on learning. It is tantamount to declaring martial law in our schools. We as society need to find the cause of mass shootings like Sandy Hook, Aurora Colorado. Putting cops in our schools is just like putting a band-aid on compound fracture. It's not going to do anything to help in the long term. Am I just talking out of my ass or do I have a point? What do you think?
